Since 2006, I have represented members of the US Army facing courts-martial, article 15’s (NJP), administrative board and conscientious objector hearings, as well as assisted soldiers seeking an early discharge. I have also assisted veterans with seeking an upgrade of their prior military discharge as well as fighting against recoupments.
Due to limitations of capacity, I am only taking cases in the following areas at this time:
- AWOL/UA cases, but especially...
- Cases of servicemembers who have left the USA while absent and are seeking to return to the US to resolve their AWOL status
(I have worked with dozens of servicemembers in this situation over the years and have techniques that can make the return go as smoothly as possible.) - Cases of the US Army who are currently AWOL from either Basic Training or AIT, and who want to return to military control at the Fort Sill PCF (Personnel Control Facility).
(Please note that many returnees in this situation are able to successfully return without a lawyer's assistance (often after working with the GI Rights Hotline). My services are intended for returnees who want the extra assurance of having a lawyer involved.) - US Marines returning to Camp Pendleton, CA
- Cases of servicemembers who have left the USA while absent and are seeking to return to the US to resolve their AWOL status
- Conscientious Objector cases
(Please note that in most cases I recommend prospective clients work with either the Center on Conscience and War or Quaker House to draft their initial application, but hire me to represent them in the CO hearing and through the rebuttal process.)
- Cases of public war resisters and other members of the military who are facing retribution for free speech actions.
- Contesting the recoupment of education expenses, such as when a military academy graduate is unable to complete their contractural term of service)
- Consulting with other civilian attorneys who are wanting an experienced co-counsel on board for their first military case.
If your case falls outside of these areas, I encourage you to reach out to the following groups for assistance and/or a referral:
